In a broad sense, education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, habits, beliefs, values, and more. Education takes place both in formal and informal settings – and certainly not just in shool rooms or university halls. There are many different methods for education, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach that will work for everyone.
In many countries and jurisdictions, formal government-approved education is both a right and a duty for children up to a certain age. In countries where there is no or minimal separation between state authorities and religious authorities, this obligation can include confessional education.
What’s vocational education?
Vocational education is a type of educaton focused on direct and practical training for a trade or craft, such as carpentry, architecture, agriculture, or painting. It is common for apprenticeship or internship to be an essential part of vocation education.
What’s a university?
A university is an institution of higher education and research, which is capable of awarding academic degrees. The word university is derived from the Latin concept universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly translates into “a community of teachers and scholars”.
In many countries, the education offered by a university can be divided into two categories: undergraduate education and postgraduate education.
What’s a kindergarten?
In the late 1700s, kindergartens (“gardens for children”) were established in Bavaria and Strasbourg for children whose parents worked outside the home. Generally speaking, a kindergarten is a place where children are cared for during the day and encouraged to participate in activities such as drawing, singing and playing games together with other children. The term kindergarten, coined by the German pedagogue Friedrich Fröbel, was eventually borrowed into many languages as the practice of offering kindergartens spread outside the German-speaking parts of Europe.
